What is Community Engagement?

Community engagement is one of the strategies used by the Foundation to stay close to our communities’ needs. Community engagement is an ongoing, intentional process designed to allow all individuals to lift their voices to help set community priorities, and to build community decision-making practices that respect and use resident input.

We believe community engagement builds the health and capacity of our community. Community engagement can increase empathy, understanding, and civic connection between and among residents, strengthening important community assets: people, places, and organizations.

The Foundation regularly supports organizations in their community engagement efforts (i.e., Gregory Center YMCA, Lancaster County Library, City of Lancaster Downtown Revitalization Plan), and uses community engagement to set Foundation priorities.
